How to Create an Unforgettable Retail Display

Retail outlets across the UK and beyond will understand just how detrimental this period of economic downturn can be for business. It is therefore imperative that customers visiting a shop are met by displays of high quality goods that are presented immaculately. There are many ways in which retail managers can jazz up their displays to make them more appealing, so on a slow Sunday afternoon, consider implementing a few of the following changes to help excite returning customers and attract new ones.

Use Props

A fantastic way to create an unforgettable display is to use other objects to draw the eye. Avoid spending lots of money by turning to charity shops and second hand warehouses to pick up retro items such as quirky armchairs or other vintage accessories as these objects are proving very popular at the moment. On a budget, you can craft a display that incorporates some of your best stock and when it’s time to change the display, simply re-donate the props (or take them home to brighten up the living room!).

Invest in Quality Equipment

If you have recently acquired a retail setting that has not yet been fitted with display equipment, or your old fixtures are now unsteady and not particularly easy on the eye, it’s probably time to invest in new equipment that will last for the years ahead. Choosing a specialist company to provide you with retail display apparatus rather than sourcing it from elsewhere means they can also help to highlight specific promotions or areas you are really looking to push through tailored and innovative design.

Keep it Fresh

When it comes to retail displays, it’s really important to swap and change your products around and get creative on a regular basis, especially when it comes to your window display. Your location could form part of people’s journey to and from work, so changing it often means you may just entice them in one day on their way home with that ‘must have’ product.

Shed Some Light

Even the most lovingly prepared retail displays will be pretty useless if your customers can’t see them properly. Many small boutiques favour mood lighting within their stores, using dimmed lights to create an ambience within their shop. Mood lighting is fine, but make sure you are also using brighter spotlights effectively to showcase displays appropriately rather than leaving them undiscovered in the dark.

During a quieter day at the shop, why not try out a few of these top tips and see what a difference it can make? A few unusual props combined with strategic spotlights and high quality display equipment could serve to boost sales significantly.

Sophie has worked in independently owned shops for many years and has always been fascinated by the way in which a cleverly crafted retail display can enhance interest in a certain product and encourage sales.
